Tonbridge School is a prestigious, historic boarding school located in Kent, England, renowned for its beautiful grounds and world-class facilities. Holiday Music is fortunate to use this exceptional venue, which offers state-of-the-art performance spaces, dedicated practice rooms, and a serene, inspiring environment perfect for a holiday of musical immersion. The school's rich history and stunning architecture provide a unique and elegant backdrop, ensuring an experience that is both musically enriching and culturally memorable for all our participants.

Tutors for the course include Danielle, Cathy, Beatrice, Nicky, John, Ian and Hilary.

What to expect

  • Five days of wonderful music making and socialising with other like- minded musicians in which you will develop your musical skills, grow in confidence and acquire greater assurance in playing with others.
  • After meeting your ensemble groups for a relaxed afternoon run- through , we all gather for dinner and are treated to an inspiring opening Tutor’s Recital followed by a small welcome party where you can unwind and meet new friends.

  • The next 3 days are filled with expert coaching sessions , practice time and other interesting optional activities such as Choir, Barbershop, Orchestra, Cello Group, Yoga and Creative Movement.

  • During the week there are plenty of opportunities for you to perform to a supportive audience and to hear lots of beautiful music played by others.

  • On the final day we celebrate the music we've been working on during the course in a festive and supportive final concert . Our goodbyes often become 'Au revoirs' as we start to think about what we would like to play next time and with whom!

Not at all! Many people apply individually. We’ll place you in a group that matches your playing level and repertoire interests.

In addition to ensemble coaching, participants can enjoy a wide range of optional activities such as choir, orchestra, jazz, yoga, and movement classes. Evenings are informal, with opportunities to relax and socialise in the common rooms.

  • Day 1
    Meet your group, rehearse, and enjoy planned activities, including a tutors’ concert.
  • Days 2 & 3
    Group rehearsals with coaches, plus other activities like choir, orchestra, movement classes, and singing accompaniment.
  • Final day
    A celebratory concert where all groups perform their prepared pieces.

Participants are sent their music 4–6 weeks before the course, giving plenty of time to prepare.

Before the course, Claire Smith (Course Director) will speak with you to discuss your playing level, experience, and repertoire preferences. She and the team will then carefully match you with one or more groups and assign suitable repertoire.

We recommend attending our Taster Days, where you can meet tutors and students, try some activities, and get a feel for the course.

Who can join Holiday Music?2025-09-11T10:34:45+01:00

Anyone who plays an instrument at approximately Grade 5 level or above is welcome. You can apply as a soloist, with a pre-formed group, or as an instrumentalist looking to join a group.
